5 Quick Things #237 ๐
vibrant intersections, Scottish islands, the man in the arena, and mamas
Hi there,
Like you, Iโve been taking in a lot of the news when I can and, hopefully like you too, have been praying a lot for wisdom for those who shoulder our societal and political big decisions. Whew. Monumental things are afoot.
When moments are about sensitive, life-involving issues, like abortion, I find it more important than ever to remember the individual human beings behind the avatars online. Weโre flesh and blood speaking through the medium of digital pixels and code, full of nuance and past experiences and the weight of the image of God coursing through our veins. We would do well especially now to keep this at the forefront of our conversations. (Iโm speaking to myself as much as anyone.)
5 Quick Things โ๏ธ
1.ย ๐ New episode of A Drink With a Friend!ย ๐ย Particular places in the world matter, whether they're your grandma's childhood home or the Sistene Chapel. Going to them matters, too, and it's a privilege and honor to do so because the journey, the arrival, and the conversations once we're there shape us for the better. Go to them when you can.
2.ย Why do we remember more when we read something in print vs. on a screen? This is a helpful reminder, both for us and for our kids.
3.ย It was recently the anniversary of Teddy Rooseveltโs famous โman in the arenaโ speech (cue Brenรฉ Brown, if youโre familiar). Hereโs the full text, and hereโs a helpful explanation as to why itโs such a good speech.
4. What a beautiful way to make streets safer for pedestrians! Pair that with this reminder of why we need to walk.
5.ย And finally, if you need something calm at the end of this week (I know I do), hereโs the view of a simple life on a tiny Scottish island.
