Hey there,
There’s a certain disconnect between what most of us are doing at home and what we’re following in the news right now. DL Mayfield commented on Twitter, “Good Lord we just had a coup during a global pandemic and I’m cooking broccoli cheese soup for dinner” and I resonate deeply with this sentiment. …I bet you do, too. Yesterday I took kids to appointments and submitted an article for publication, all the while feeling like I should pop online every now and then to see how our democracy was holding up. I also have one child who loves following the ins and outs of news details and another child who’s super-sensitive to an onslaught of the news, so that’s fun to juggle.
In the midst of everything, Epiphany was Wednesday. I’d planned to chalk our door in recognition, but time slipped away, so we’re going to do it this weekend. No matter what’s happening in the news, 2021 calls for an intentional blessing to make our home a place of welcome for all who enter.

5 Quick Things ☕️
1. Seth & I start this year talking about slowness as a form of soulcraft. I loved this.
2. This week’s quick-drop episode from Pantsuit Politics about the attempted coup is a must-listen.
3. Baking bread as an act of hope — “In the time the bread takes to rise, anything could happen. …I am planning for a future that may not come to pass.”
4. Wisdom on how to make spiritual sense of current events, specifically the difference between anger and rage: according to St. Thomas Aquinas, “anger is the passion that moves the will to justice.” This is a really good conversation.
5. The seven types of rest we all need. I feel this.
