5 Quick Things #223 🥣
back-and-forthing, simple soup, farmstand milk, & panda cheese
Hey there,
Normally I don’t love starting my ‘hello’ to you talking about the weather (😴), but the weather here in central Texas has been wild this week! On Wednesday the high was 78 and we almost turned on the A/C to ward off the humidity, then on Thursday we had a 70% chance of snow with a high of 36. C’mon, winter!
Nonetheless, all is well here and it was a good week if anything because I started Jane Eyre with my students. 🙌 I’ve already learned a lot about the subtle art of doing-one’s-best-at-keeping-the-bulk-of-one’s-groceries’-origin-from-within-100-miles, and I’ll be sharing some of those thoughts this next week to subscribers. At minimum, I’ll share this spoiler: y’all, farm-fresh milk is soooooooo very good.
5 Quick Things ☕️
1. 👉 New episode of A Drink With a Friend! 👈 Disagreeing well is a lost art — but what if knowing how to disagree well not only mattered to our own personal development, but was also a tool in keeping our civilization from crumbling? Seth and I talk about why disagreeing matters so much and how we can do it better.
2. Are the great books truly great? What an interesting back-and-forth format (with a clear winner, if I say so).
3. This piece pairs quite well with my podcast conversation with Seth this week. What can we learn from an ongoing series of open letters between a renowned atheist and a cardinal? Four practical tips ensue.
4. Five five-ingredient soup recipes? Yes, please.
5. And finally, I appreciate this compilation of thought Claire has given us on the eve of the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Long, but worth the read.

Join Me This Summer… 🍷
Our group to Italy is already shaping up nicely, and I’d love to have you join us! Be part of our gathering in Tuscany from July 23-August 2 as we explore the via pulchritudinous — or way of beauty — as a sacramental posture of seeing the divine everywhere. Food, architecture, art, a slower-paced, artful way of life… Italy has it all.
The trip is quite reasonably priced, and if you’re like me, you are so very ready to get back out there. Come along!
Question For You to Ponder… 🤔
What are three specific things you’re grateful for right now? Write ‘em down.
Have a great weekend,

p.s. These are truly bizarre, but as a *chef’s kiss* example of the ad baculum logical fallacy, I used one of them in one of my classes yesterday and I truly cannot stop laughing.
