I recently picked up a Traeger for free from my neighbors who are moving -- and I previously had thought there was no way they were worth their price point, but it is SO good. We also have a charcoal weber, which we like a lot, but only for the weekends because it just takes so dang long to get going. We were looking for a few replacement parts and realized you can pick up a Traeger pretty affordably through Facebook Marketplace (ones around our area were about $100-$200 in functional, used condition).

A free Traeger?! What a gift! My question about those: don’t they take a long time to get going, too?

We have a large Weber gas grill. We use it most days so we had a gas line put in as we already have an indoor gas stove. Fun fact: you can buy flat grillpans to cook smash burgers, bacon, eggs, veggies on one side and steaks on the wire rack next to it. Hint: grill bacon saves your stove top or oven from grease. With indented edges you can still save the grease when pan has cooled down. We never use charcoal grill any more. Supposedly that is not healthy although chicken cooked on it is tasty.

Please, please, please share about your carnivorish diet. Why are you doing it? Has your family joined you or do you make separate meals for them. Also, even in TX heat, do you still walk daily?

I don’t necessarily want to get into the health reasons for my going carnivore, but I will say I’ve benefitted greatly from it! And I plan to keep doing it for the foreseeable future, with the hope eventually of transitioning more keto long-term.

Good $.02 with the grill — thank you!

And my family eats carnivore-ish with me, as in they’ll have sides that I don’t have. Occasionally I’ll just make my own thing, but the nice thing about eating meat is that it’s pretty straightforward and simple.

And I do my best to move daily, even in Texas summers! Sometimes it means early mornings and/or just embracing the stickiness. It’s all good.

Thank you. Your example of faith and your writing always inspires me. I used your Rule of Life to develop my own rule for these late years. Hint: Slow and simple living; daily prayers & scripture; learning to use rosary even tho I am a Presbyterian; using the Hours format for regular (if brief) times of prayer/quiet; expressing more gratitude; news fasts and varnivorish and OMAD (IYKYK). Enjoy your social media fast. So restorative.

I know!! Total gift. Joseph cooked about twenty sausages on it last weekend and it was really quick (15 minutes maybe?)

I think the big difference was the fact that we could just plug the Traeger in and start it up instead of the long ordeal of heating up the charcoal for our Weber.

My husband has a propane Weber grill that he got for Father’s Day in 2009 and still loves it and uses it all the time.

I've had both a Charbroil propane grill and a Weber charcoal grill for a long time, but the Charbroil is on its last legs. I'm actually debating a Blackstone vs regular propane grill for its replacement.
