Gurl! I am with you and the Homesteading thing. My daughter has dreamed of this since she was little. She would make up a town where every family member had a 'job' and we supported each other. She still dreams of farm for all her loves to be together. She is married now with two kids of her own. A girl can dream...

This week's poll made me realize even more how "ideal" where I live is for my family and myself-- a small, walkable city with everything we need within a mile! A big part of the reason we moved here was the walkabiliity & ability to only have one car for our family :)

I too have slightly idealistic visions of a little farm in the future. In Australia (where I am from, though I live in the UK now) we have what are called 'hobby farms' (normally 50 acres or less). Quite popular for people to retire to after living in the city/suburbs in their working lives. There's something to the idea that nature/physical labour/growing food/raising livestock is grounding. Perhaps especially so in our current time?
