Iodine is such an interesting nutrient! My most recent piece of anecdotal evidence w/it is that for the past couple pregnancies I have had wild seafood and seaweed cravings in my first trimester… What organ is working exceptionally hard and uses a lot of iodine at that point? The thyroid. I’ve also heard quite a few connections with breast health, prevention of ovarian cysts etc…
And 💯 to the fat thing. So important for hormones.
Yes, yes, yes! I'm only just now realizing how important iodine is for our thyroids. If you haven't yet, look up Elizabeth Bright's stuff on YouTube — she says some really insightful stuff for us ladies (and for our girls). Wish I'd known about this when my daughter was younger, but better late than never...
Ah that Rhine River trip pulls me in everytime I see it. Next summer is a nuthouse for us (massive surgery for our littlest, keep Will in your prayers!) but ONE DAY.
Gordon Ramsey was in our neighborhood this week, too! He made an appearance at the restaurant/coffee shop where I've been meeting with my "book tribe" for many years. (They were the example of how to do things correctly, ha!) So fun to have a culinary celebrity sighting in our local eatery! (Now if it was Ina Garten, I truly may have passed out if I was in her presence...)
I'll be interested to hear what your opinion is about carnivore longterm. I ate low-carb for about 18 months a couple of years ago and for the first year or so it was fantastic, but then I started to experience energy problems and shaking and other issues. Vitamins and supplements weren't enough to resolve this...but reintroducing carbs was. But along with reintroducing carbs came back some other problems! I wish there were a clear longer-term solution. Sometimes I think some form of cycling between eating styles over time might be best, including low-carb or carnivore limited-time-space resets. I'm not sure, but I was alarmed to find that my body responded so well at first but really did not have the resources to function well on low-carb over time, once I had lost my reserves!
My husband has eaten the carnivore diet or partial carnivore because he will also eat dairy. There are YouTube videos of people who promote this type of eating that you can learn from. I know Wendy’s will let you order only the meat patties without buns etc. it is difficult to sustain this type of eating long term. So when my husband gets off the eating style he gains the weight back. My husband said he did realize while eating the only meat diet how much sugar is hidden in sauces and other foods. He said he felt better but his blood work did not look good. He already struggles with high cholesterol. His vitamin D and folic acid levels are low.
Some are more strict. They only eat meat. Some add dairy. Some add avocados and mushrooms. I’m more of that last group except I’m adding 1-2 pieces of dark chocolate 1 time a week 😁

If it was Ina Garten I would have pushed through the security guards to say hello like a goober.
It sounds like you’re eating carnivore in style, Tsh! Now I’m craving a good BBQed brisket…
So far so good!
My husband just re-read Frankenstein recently and was reminding me what a wild ride it is! I need to read it again...I haven't since high school!

There are an absolute TON of resources on YouTube! And yes, I do dairy, too — dairy is considered carnivore.

Yep! It's a spectrum on the "Proper Human Diet."
