Progressive dinner with close friends. A different house or restaurant for each round (appetizer, main, dessert... And for the extra points, coffee/tea).

I like going out for this. It seems like a lot, but if you share each round, making it more about the company, it keeps cost down, and frees up money to bless the servers.

You can also do this at each other's house, but keep it EXTRA simple. It can easily become more about the prep and cleanup than it is about the company.

Work a puzzle, draw with sidewalk chalk (never too old for this), start a summer journal or write a short story, listen to a whole album until you know all the songs. No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom was the soundtrack of summer 1996 for me and I still cannot listen to any of those songs without being transported back in time.

PIck a different country and build your menu around their cuisine for the week. You can also learn about that country and their customs. BONUS: visit a restaurant in your city that matches the country! We always start with Greece bc the Greek festival is the first week of June! Great way to "take a trip" without leaving your home.

Make a jar of musical genres to explore- listen to the music via RECORDS or CDs or cassette tapes (OH MY!) I type this as my 3 yr old is listening to recorded books on record with my fisher price record player

My 16-year-old's current hobby is making mix CDs! He much prefers old-school discs over digital.

- Clean out a messy area -- your closet, the toy/game room, and donate superfluous items! I loved a good cleaning and organizing day in my room over the summer :)

- Bird-watching or nature walk to spot and learn new species, maybe find a guidebook and follow it for trees/birds/insects, whatever you like!

I was going to suggest the donating idea too!
