A wonderful list. Anything by Elizabeth Goudge is a delight, you're going to love The Dean's Watch, Tsh.

What a wonderful list of recommendations! I want to read them all! Heading over to my public library website right now to see which ones they have in the collection...

I am really excited for you to read The Dean's Watch. Let us know how you like it! Maybe I'll reread it this Advent, too.

Also, a recommendation for families with young children: The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits. 24 short chapters, one for each day of December, and although it is not religious, there's an appearance by St. Lucia! https://www.amazon.com/Yule-Tomte-Little-Rabbits-Christmas/dp/1782501363

Ohhhh gosh I love all Tomte books for this time of year! Astrid Lindgren's The Tomten, as well as the Tomten and the Fox, are some of our FAVES.

My Advent reading plan:

- A Christmas Carol

- Dean’s Watch (also ordered after hearing Autumn talk about it)

- Shadow & Light

- A Foxfire Christmas (read it every year, love it so much)

- Lots of beautiful picture books with my 4 year old! We’re doing A Connected Christmas from Treehouse Schoolhouse this year.

Happy New Year! 😉

I love The Reed of God! And On the Incarnation is high on my TBR list. I've been reading Church history this fall, and let's just say St. Athanasius is a BALLER.

This is the first time I have seen Athanasius referred to as a "baller." Har!

Tsh, how often do you think we're wearing the same outfit or eating the same lunch?

OHHHH the Chesterton book. Adding to my list now!

My Advent list has Shadow & Light, of course! As well as Watch For the Light from Plough, The Circle of Seasons by K.C. Ireton, and dear Jody Collins' book Living the Season Well. I'm also dipping into Hannah Anderson's book Heaven & Nature Sing, for the first time! And very much looking forward to an upcoming Advent book by Lanier. :)

I also cannot recommend enough the book All Creation Waits by Gayle Boss. Especially if you have kids that enjoy nature study. It's a beautiful, short daily reading on different animals and their winter practices, with a spiritual and contemplative undertone that really captures the essence of Advent.

I agree with you. For a few years I enjoyed sharing All Creation Waits with my students when I taught at a Catholic school. Sadly, I'd never get through the whole book. I learned a lot from it and still pick it up even though I'm no longer in the classroom.
