You gave me tears while I ate breakfast. In all the best ways.

I am not a mom yet, but hoping to foster and adopt. My story will look a lot different, but I trust the Author to write a good one that fits me and my future child(ren).

Also - about 3 years ago I also popped into 309 (which had amazing cardamom buns at the time) thanks to your post about Georgetown. I loved it, as well as a couple restaurants you recommended.

I'm amazed by how much you've been juggling. Enjoy those well-deserved naps, Tsh!

Oh Tsh, so much joy and delight for you. This post is so beautiful and hits in all the right places. My own girls are 16, 13, and 9. Sheesh, I don't know if I'll ever be ready for this transition... but thanks for sharing your words about yours!

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

It’s a wild ride, that’s for sure!

You're very kind, friend. Thank you. And what a beautiful event, beautiful bride, beautiful life. And I can so relate with the tiredness around ALL THE EVENTS. And the tug of real life. Keep napping, keep writing. I'm a huge fan of your family and I am rooting for all of you.

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

Thank you, Shawn. And likewise to you and yours!

Wept through this -- thank you so much for sharing this story! When my own daughter, 14, asked why I was crying and heard my explanation of your essay, she patted me on the head and said, "Oh, it's okay mom. I'll be here for awhile and whenever I do get married, it will be *good* too." 🥹

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

Aww… really wise words from your 14-year-old. 💛

Ah, I cried, too! Beautiful, Tsh. We are so happy for you and your girl and your whole family. What a precious chapter of life.

I stayed strong through the whole thing but the baby picture of Tate at the end got me 😭

I love this so much! I remember in Dublin, Tate getting a tattoo and texting Jenn E showing the picture of it! What a cool kid! Well done fam....and well done mom and dad!

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

Aw, thanks Natalie! So good to hear from you!

Just sitting here crying, thinking about what this will be like with my own little girl, now not-so-little. You did it, Tsh! Thank you so much for sharing these intimate moments with us. Now, go take a(nother) nap ;).

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

I literally just woke up from one! Thanks, Wendi, that means a lot.

I’m so full of joy for your family and for Tate and her new hubby.

When my girls were toddlers, we were living in Austin and I happened to be talking with my French neighbor (Amy, I think?) about madhouse that is of little ones. She gave me Organized Simplicity and told me a woman from her church had written it — and had a blog called Simple Mom. That book and of course the blog became my absolute lifeline through the toddler years. This Substack is my favorite thing on the internet.

And now here I am looking at Tate as a grown woman, and looking at my own now-19 and almost-18-year-old daughters, plus my two boys (14 and 12) — and I just have to say, it ALL flies. Every single bit of it.

I love watching them grow into who they are meant to be, and I still hold the memory of each of them as these spazzy, full-of-life little balls of toddler energy. Both things are true at once, and that’s the magic of it.

Congratulations a million times over, Tate — and thank you for helping me survive the long days while reminding me to treasure the short years. You made a difference for me and my whole family.

What a lovely, kind comment, Lacey — thank you so much! And I still hope to connect with you in person one day soon.

Oh my goodness. I hope that, if my daughter chooses to get married someday in the future (the distant future, please and thank you 🙏) my husband and I will take the time to process the event together in such an intentional and sweet way. Kyle is a wise man to remember to stop and savor a moment that could have so easily been passed over after what I’m guessing was a long (but joyful!) day.

The pictures are all so precious, but the one of Tate peeking through the blinds is my favorite!

P.S. Loved 309, having lived in the northwest, you know what I mean when I say you’re so lucky to have that place down here, and right in your neighborhood!

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

Yes indeed, on all accounts! I agree; I’m very glad Kyle was wise enough to savor the moment even though I initially hesitated.

Let me know if you ever come into town again — 309’s on me!

I would love that!

I loved reading this personal account about your daughter's wedding. I truly admire your family. I am rereading Notes from a Blue Bike at this time. I am so happy she allowed you to share photos. She is a gorgeous bride as were you back in the day. I have followed you for many years and this celebration felt kinda personal to me. Bless you all and now...make room for Tsh time this summer as you recoup from a very busy time in your life.

Thank you so much!

What a beautiful day! What a beautiful bride! Tate is just ✨glowing✨ Thank you so much for sharing these moments with us. I found you many, many years ago and share your amazement at how quickly our kids grow up and begin to find their own way in the world. My three are 34, 31, and 26. And we have three grandchildren now who are also growing quickly. Joy, all of it 💕

Tsh Oxenreider's avatar

Thank you so much, Joan! And thank you for being such a longstanding reader; that means so much.

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful essay. My eldest, my daughter, is 20 and I felt all of the emotions reading this with tears in my eyes. She will likely be walking down the aisle herself in the next few years and my son is about to graduate from high school. It feels like the last 20 years happened in the blink of an eye. The days are long but the years are short is a phrase I have been thinking about a lot lately.

Many blessings to your family. What a wonderful way to start you summer!

Thank you so much, Heather! Blessings on your family as well.
