Thank you for this, both for reminding me and for giving me the words to defend why I believe this!

Yes, to everything you wrote. Your essay is one more voice continuing to press upon me the importance of beauty. I just finished Art Can Help by Robert Adams -- a book of essays about photos and paintings.

He wrote at the end of an essay about a photo by Wayne Gudmundson, "for many artists, beauty is the voice out of the whirlwind."

And, I think that's at the heart of your writing here too.

Thank you for putting to words the unnamed thoughts and feelings that have has been swirling in my head and heart! This was what my soul needed and beautifully gave a nod to the both/and or paradox we are living in. So much pain in the world that sits right next to abundant beauty. This piece was a gift!

I loved this post, Tsh. Thank you for sharing! I recently read, and have since been contemplating Jack Gilbert’s poem, “A Brief for the Defense”. Have you read it? Your piece enriches my experience of that poem, and gives me even more to think about.

My husband and I have been obsessed with All Creatures Great and Small on PBS, and I have also been enjoying the audiobooks! So good.
